What is a food intolerance test?

Food intolerance is your body’s abnormal reaction to a particular food, which can manifest in a variety of ways. Some people will experience one or two symptoms every now and then, while others may experience ongoing symptoms. According to studies, approximately 45 percent of the population suffers from some form of food intolerance. Food intolerances are not the result of an immune system reaction. They are related to food digestion issues. Food intolerances develop as a result of a lack of an enzyme required to digest certain foods, or as a reaction to additives or naturally occurring compounds in foods. Individuals suffering from food intolerances may be able to consume small amounts of the offending foods. However, when they consume too much, their bodies react. Many people with lactose intolerance, for example, find that they can drink a small amount of milk with meals or eat yogurt or other lactose-free foods without experiencing any symptoms.

What are the signs and symptoms of food intolerance?

Any of the following are acceptable:

Bloating, cramping, water retention, IBS, constipation, diarrhea, migraine, fatigue, mood change, impaired concentration, arthritis, joint pain, asthma, weight gain, infertility
